COMMUNICATION
INTRODUCTION:
Communication comes from the Latin word, “COMMUNICARE” meaning, “To share”. It is the act of conveying intended meanings from an entity or a group to another using mutually understood signs and semiotic rules.
The process of imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium is termed as communication.
Communication is the natural aspect of man’s life. Communication is as old as human, human being himself starts communicating from birth. When a baby cries it is communicating its need for attention or milk, when it gurgles (happy) it is expressing its sense of satisfaction.

W.H.NEWMAN and C.F.SUMER, “Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions or emotions by two or more persons”.
KEITH DAVIS, “Communication is the process of passing information and understanding- from one person to another”.
PETER LITTLE, ”Communication is the process by which information is transmitted between individuals or organizations so that an understanding response results”.
CHARACTERSTICS:
It is a dynamic process.
It is a continuous process.
It is a two way process.
It is goal oriented.
It is pervasive in nature.
It is a circular flow.
It can be verbal as well as nonverbal both.
COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS
MEANING: Communication problems are any difficulties that an individual may have trying to talk to anyone and to explain his/her wants and needs. Communication problems may potentially develop in any circumstance or social relationship.
A communication difficulty can affect a person’s ability to hear, talk, understand, read, write, sign and/or gesture. People with a communication difficulty can find it hard to do everyday activities such as reading a book/ newspaper, talking on the telephone, joining in conversations, listening to the radio.
CAUSES: There are many reasons why people may have a communication difficulty. Some communication difficulties can be present at birth. Other communication difficulties can develop over time. A communication difficulty can also begin suddenly.
Communication problems can be caused by:
Hearing loss
Chromosomal conditions (e.g. down syndrome).
Cerebral Palsy
Stroke
Traumatic brain injury
Head and neck cancer(e.g. brain tumor)
Personality trait (e.g. introvert person)
Language problem
Lack of self confidence
Inability of explain feelings
No meaningful communication for long period
